Rebecca Tucker Becomes First Democrat to Run for County Commissioner of Precinct 4 in 20 Years

Public safety, future-ready vocational training, and living-wage advocacy are among her top priorities

NEW BERLIN, Texas — Jan. 9, 2018— Rebecca Tucker, a long-time resident of New Berlin, has announced her candidacy for Guadalupe County Commissioner of Precinct 4, which hasn’t seen a Democrat on the ballot for that seat in at least 20 years.

“Guadalupe County has seen an explosion of growth over the last two decades,” said Tucker. “However, with that expansion comes the growing pains of greater financial and public safety challenges. The question is—are we going to be proactive to overcome these challenges and prepare for future ones, or continue with the status quo, which could stifle our community’s economic progress?”

Tucker will advocate for more investment in local communities by companies, whether through apprenticeship programs, or setting up formal partnerships with local high schools and adult employment services to establish vocational training programs. She will also push for accountability when companies receive tax incentives but fail to deliver the jobs and wages promised.

Tucker currently works for a large, international consulting firm as a global business communications manager. As a former volunteer EMT and current long-time volunteer with the Guadalupe County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), Tucker is familiar with the challenges facing rural volunteer and paid emergency medical services (EMS) departments. In addition, she holds a BA in operational meteorology and brings her scientific knowledge, combined with knowledge of emergency management protocol, to the public safety arena, with particular expertise in flash flooding and tropical weather concerns.

“We can’t continue to look to the past for how to handle the current and future challenges of our dynamic, fast-growing county,” said Tucker. “It’s not enough to promise jobs for the county. We need local vocational services that help train our folks in new industries. It’s not a sustainable solution to rely on property taxes from new developments to offset expenses from expanding county services needed to serve an increasing population. We need fresh voices in our county government that can bring innovative solutions that will prepare us for the future. That’s something I will bring to the table.”

Rebecca “Becca” Tucker, 2018 Candidate for Guadalupe County Commissioner, Precinct 4

Thank you for visiting my website.

I’m running for Guadalupe County Commissioner of Precinct 4 because I want to help our county prosper while keeping it a place where people love to live. We need proactive approaches to ensure the sustainability of our economy through living-wage job creation and infrastructure improvements for transportation, potable water, emergency communications and other vital public systems.

As a former volunteer EMT and current long-time volunteer with the Guadalupe County Community Emergency Response Team (CERT), I’m familiar with the challenges facing rural volunteer and paid emergency medical services (EMS) departments. In addition, I hold a BA in operational meteorology and bring scientific knowledge, combined with knowledge of emergency management protocol, to the public safety arena, particularly when it comes to flash flooding and tropical weather concerns.

If elected as your county commissioner, I will bring a fresh perspective and forward-thinking ideas about living-wage jobs, vocational training advocacy, and fiscal responsibility that would benefit Guadalupe County. I will also advocate for more investment in local communities by companies, whether through apprenticeship programs, or setting up formal partnerships with local high schools and adult employment services to establish vocational training programs, in addition to pushing for accountability when companies receive tax incentives but fail to deliver the jobs and wages promised.

Please join my campaign to help keep Guadalupe County a wonderful place to live.
